Top 10 Ways To Increase Adsense Revenue

There are too many bloggers out there working day and night to satisfy their need to be known and to become. Where as, we really appreciate their efforts but its about time, you started to seek ways to get paid for what you love doing (do you really JUST wanna write?) The answer that most of you must be asking yourselves and (definitely) your computer screen is, "Is it truly possible?" Cross my heart and hope to die, yes, it very much is possible. With a twitch here and there and a tinge of class everywhere!

We expect our readers to be familiar with the name "Google AdSense". Google AdSense is the most trusted way for bloggers to earn some serious dough using their blog. It is being used by millions of bloggers out there and is certainly, a very handy tool to use. But like every good thing in the world, it has a catch. Extracting money from Google AdSense can be a little challenging for people who are using it for the first time. That's where we come in. We will tell you how to use this service and get the most out of it.

First off, lets discuss why Google AdSense came into being and what purpose it was created for. Google AdSense is a pay-per-click (PPC) program that can help you generate advertising revenue via pages on your website with a minimal investment in time and no additional resources. Sign up for Google AdSense today if you haven't already done so and get started with us.

Below are the 10 most effective ways for every blogger to start earning money through Google AdSense.

Ad Size / Ad Placement:

This is the core, most important lesson for the day; an ad's size and its location. Studies show that you are more likely to earn through Google AdSense if you place the right ads in the right place with the right size. In accordance with the topic, we did a research which can be found here. Trust us, size matters (!) along with its location :D

Traffic:

Newbie bloggers are usually under the misconception that traffic is what brings in big money. This is not true in the case of Google AdSense. What matters where as Google AdSense is concerned, is the type of traffic that you are generating. Now, there are two types of traffic that you could be getting on your blog/website:
1. Organic Traffic: Traffic that you are receiving through search engines etc
2. Inorganic Traffic: Traffic that you are receiving through sites like Facebook and Twitter.
Out of the two, we consider Organic Traffic to be most prone to clicking on ads on your page. So try increasing the Organic Traffic.
We have done research on how to increase traffic on your blog/website:
1. "14 ways to get targeted traffic from Twitter" which can be found here.
2. "5 ways to drive traffic to your blog" which can be found here.
3. "50 ways to drive traffic to your website" which can be found here.
Yes, we know that we are very efficient!

AdSense for Search:

Google AdSense offers multiple options to monetize your site. Unfortunately, newbies ignore these ultimate preferences and end up with a hole in their pocket. Worry not. We are here to stitch that hole and give you a lesson of a lifetime. Add AdSense ads everywhere possible. Add it in search and feeds etc. By doing so you will ultimately triple your AdSense income. By adding it in the search you will not only increase your income but it will also help in user navigation. We strongly suggest that you give this method a try before rejecting it completely.

Image or Text Ads:

First off, lets eradicate and squish a myth concerning image ads right now. No, they do not work more or less or better or worse than the text ads. Of course, the human mind is attracted towards images, we wont deny that. Image Ads also get a high CTR, CPC. But we would still suggest you to use both the forms of ads. The best method to work around this issue is to add text ads above the posts and image ads on the header and on the sidebar. Blocking an ad type/category will result in a decreased competition on your add resulting in decreased eCPM of your ads. Hence, use both type of ads and be happy with it.

Google DFP is Your Friend:

DFP (Double Click for Publishers) is a free hosted ad serving solution that understands your need to manage  you growing online advertisement business. Via DFP you can sell your ad space on your website to suitable candidates and it will also help you to promote your own content and services through your advertisements. Google DFP will help you generate AdSense revenue in a much more comfortable and efficient way.

Section Targeting:

One of the ways to build AdSense income is through Section Targeting. Google AdSense can't technically differentiate between relevant and irrelevant ads according to your article. So, most of the times it leads to an irrelevant ad on your page which can be infuriating to most of your followers plus, no clicks on the ads equals to no cash flow. This can be solved by directing Google to your content and using keywords so that it can display more related ads on your website. You can find the guide to Section Targeting here.

Ads Between Posts:

This method should be applied by our most desperate readers. If you are willing to earn more money at the expense of giving your readers a distasteful experience, then this is what you should do.
1. Personalize AdSense ads to match your page background and color,
2. Add 468*60 image or text link ads in between your blogs/posts/articles,
3. You can also add 7-10px padding if you aren't that ruthless.

Placement Targeting:

This is very important for all the bloggers out there. When you create a medium, you are provided with options like adding more details about your ad types and putting them up for auction in the market by selecting Placement Targeting. This, in turn, increases the competition and the ad value on your site rockets sky high. You have to enable this option manually. To enable placement targeting on your channel:
1. Sign in to your existing AdSense account
2. Go to My ads
3. Go to Custom
4. Click on Custom Channels
5. Now, click on a name and a window will pop up.
6. Add the details and put a tick mark on placement targeting.

Allow and Block Ads:

Beware of the sites that pay pennies for your hardwork and dedication. You can block certain URLs' ads that you have had a bad experience with and you can also block your competitor's ads to display on your site. This will help you to keep a check on what sort of ads are being displayed on your website. This will help you expand your AdSense earnings. Here are a few ways you can block certain ads through:
Advertiser URL
Ad Category
Ad Network
The new AdSense interface allows a much more userfriendly way to block those nasty URLs. You can see and find out which URLs are performing worse than others and block those. You can also block the URLs where the earning capacity is very low according to you.

YouTube and AdSense:

For all the video publishers and people who upload videos on YouTube regularly, you can easily expand your income by using the YouTube Publisher Program. It depends upon the traffic that your videos receive but these days you can get a minimum of $40-45 per month through AdSense for YouTube.

Fab Friday Upgrades

Author Photo

Next Thursday, at 6:30pm Pacific Time, Thor Mitchell, Product Manager for the Google Maps API, will be sitting down with myself and Chris Broadfoot for a Google Maps API Office Hours on Google Plus. Thor will be discussing and taking your questions on a variety of subjects, but one of them in particular is upgrading from Google Maps API V2 to V3.

A little over two years ago, we announced that the V2 API was deprecated and V3 was the new production version. The three year deprecation period will be up next May, and the three of us will discuss ways in which developers can move their remaining V2 applications to V3. We’re even starting a new hashtag, #GoV3.

To watch the office hours live, check out our Google+ Page post. As always, the video will be posted to Google+ and YouTube later.

In other news, I stumbled on a couple of open source libraries that might be fun to incorporate into Google Maps API applications.

The first is chronoline.js, which is a library for making a chronology timeline out of events on a horizontal timescale.  It doesn’t have a specific mapping function but would be good for creating time based mapping apps.

The second is also not a mapping app, but allows you to use gamepad controllers in JavaScript. I haven’t tried Gamepad.js, but it looks pretty cool. I’d say it would be particularly useful with the Google Earth API, but might have applications in Street View and Maps as well.

Google and GroupM Next Launch SPARK Education Series

Today we’re kicking off a partnership with GroupM Next, the innovation unit of GroupM, called Spark, a series of custom, co-programmed events focused on delivering unique education and innovation experiences for brands – specifically, clients of GroupM media agencies. We created this initiative together to cultivate education and dialogue for verticals that are under-represented in the broader digital media space in terms of data, research and opportunity. This partnership is the first of its kind for both Google and GroupM, in that it’s a series dedicated to client-focused education and is designed to address topics that directly impact brand opportunity and performance.

The first event, Spark: CPG, is taking place this afternoon in New York with nine leading CPG companies in attendance. In addition to discussions led by Google and GroupM Next execs, Kantar, Buzzfeed and Amazon are joining us as we, collectively as marketers, share insights, research and digital opportunities brands in the consumer packaged goods category can take advantage of.

A quick rundown of discussions on the docket at Spark: CPG in the context of marketing for CPG brands includes:

  • Making the web work for CPG brands – our take on how the consumer, and world around us, has changed

  • The digital enhanced path, exploring the ever-changing connection between consumers and brands and opportunities that exist through understanding new consumer behaviors and the role of technology

  • Marketing and messaging innovation across multiple screens

  • The power of video and building brands with the power of sight, sound and motion

  • Developing ‘content gifts’ in the social world and capturing opportunities by engaging your brand’s super sharers

  • How mobile commerce can connect shoppers to the places and CPG products they love

  • Fostering fluid innovation across marketing and process to enable agencies and brands to meet the pace of change in consumer dynamics and technology

In most cases, Spark will provide brands with insights and education they wouldn’t have access to elsewhere. Additionally, through ongoing collaboration between our companies, GroupM agencies and clients, we’ll identify areas of interest and need for brands across digital media, and foster opportunities as they emerge.
